What Is Invisalign?
Invisalign is a name-brand teeth straightening system that uses clear aligner trays to gently and gradually shift a patient’s teeth into the desired location and arrangement.
What Orthodontic Concerns Can Invisalign Address?
Invisalign can be used to address the following orthodontic issues:
- Crooked, turned, or rotated teeth
- Crowded teeth
- Spaces between teeth (tooth gaps)
- Underbite
- Overbite
Invisalign is intended for treating minor to moderate orthodontic concerns. More severe or complex cases of misalignment or malocclusion might require treatment with different methods.
The Process of Teeth Straightening With Invisalign
Teeth straightening with Invisalign begins with a consultation and examination to first determine whether a patient is a candidate for Invisalign. Dr. Gerda then takes a digital scan of the patient’s mouth and submits this, along with the patient’s information, to Invisalign. Invisalign then evaluates the patient’s current alignment and desired results to design and manufacture a personalized teeth straightening system.
The patient will then receive their first set of clear aligner trays that can be removed at mealtimes and to brush their teeth. Otherwise, the trays should be worn at all other times to achieve the desired results.
The patient will wear each set of trays for about two weeks. Once the teeth have been adequately shifted, we rescan the patient’s mouth and submit this information to Invisalign to receive the next set of aligner trays.
This process continues until the patient’s teeth are completely aligned and the desired results are achieved. Teeth straightening with Invisalign can require a few to several months, depending on the degree of misalignment and the shifting needed to achieve the desired alignment. On average, patients achieve their desired results within about six months.

Is Invisalign Right for You?
Teeth straightening with Invisalign is intended for patients with minor to moderate teeth-straightening needs. Additionally, it is not recommended for patients younger than 16 because strict compliance with wearing the clear aligner trays is absolutely necessary for the Invisalign system to work.
